Abstract

Present study conducted a panel data regression on the provincial level public library performance index and educational level of local residents by taking the KPI of public library as the representation of public information service and the Hierarchical Social Cognitive Theory as tools of theoretical analysis tool. The findings of this research include that under the initial stage of public information service, the improvement of educational level of local residents affect the KPI of public libraries significantly. However, under the advanced stage of public information service, the relationship of users’ educational level and KPI of public libraries tend to vague. The findings of this research confirmed the hierarchical structure of social cognition and shed light on the characteristics of selection on media of different level of users. Thus, present study is expected to benefit both theory development and professional practice of the transformation of public information service.
