  • The Late Stoic Philosophy———A Good Medicine of Reading Therapy

    Analyzing the phenomenon of some books written by the Late Stoic Philosophers of the Ancient Roman are becom－ing best sellers in China，and drawing a conclusion that the Late Stoic Philosophy has some common characters with the Chi－nese culture. More importantly，as ethical philosophy，therapeutic philosophy and happy philosophy，the Late Stoic Philoso－phy rightly met the needs of Chinese psychological rehabilitation after serious disasters in 2008. Now the world is suffering the financial tsunami，and the Late Stoic philosophy is also a good medicine to fight back psychological disaster. Researchers and practitioners who are engaged in reading therapy shall pay more attention to the Late Stoic Philosophy.

It also reviews the different aspects of the project which includes the causes of reading therapy study，the research content，the research methods，the practical activities and its results. The author discusses the prospects for the in-depth research on reading therapy practice on psychological problems of the col－lege students in college library.

    In the past 18 years，the research on skills in reading intervention was focused more on symptoms than on causes; more on the ancient and modern literature in China and foreign countries than on contemporary ones; more on listing of reading literature than on instruction in reading，more on ignition changes from reading than on post -reading behavior training and cycle investigation. So new research on skills in reading intervention is done in such aspects as eti－ology，renewed literature，instruction in reading，behavior training and cycle investigation.

    With the rise of bibliometrical study in China，subjects as library science，psychology，medical science and so on start to devoted to this new work. To review and sum the development of biblio-therapy that is used to children in 21 century，enrich the theoretical study of library science and set up the useful intervention model for children' psycho－logical obstacle，the author make a statistical analysis, with SPSS 13.0 as tools，of the bibliotherapy for children in Chi－na，and then a prospect about study in this area.

    Space planning is one of the most important processes to the architecture planning for public libraries. The size of the population to be served, the requirement by the community and the statistics data of the libraries are the principles of space planning for public libraries. Based on these rules, the size of one public library should be usually determined by cost per capita, services by the library and the size of population served by the proposed space.

    With regard to the dangling problem of the intelligence science, three application fields and five theoretical foundations are elucidated to demonstrate that the intelligence science has some differences with the information science. An assumption that the research of intelligence science thereafter should focus on a core, "user absorbing information and applying it in decision-making", is made in the part of conclusion.

     In this paper，with the method of bibliometrics，the authors make a statistics and analysis about the time，the keywords，and the subjects of doctoral dissertations of information science. By this work，the authors try to find the char－acters，the regular pattern，and the problems of the dissertations. Some advices are put forward in order to increase the level of training and education for information science doctors.

    The user service is the start point and the ultimate goal of library. In view of the users' convenience of the service’s request, this paper, combined with the background of the times, points out the competition and challenges that the cause of the current library is facing. Meanwhile, from the vertical and horizontal aspects, the author analyses the management of time in the public library services to users. Finally, on this basis, the author puts forward a number of suggestions to improve management and service level.

    The development of theory can guide practice. As the basis of related research，explicit concept of knowledge is urgent and important. This article expounds the original meanings of the Chinese word "knowledge". Based on the pre－vious four definitions，this paper analyses knowledge's connotation and extension，then gives a limited concept. According to the comparison between knowledge and the related words，the definition of knowledge is clear.

However due to the disorder state of library structure system, humanity can not fully use the existing collections to gain the knowledge nutrition. Therefore, the library law should be accurate posi－tioning and be special research, as to have the structural characteristics of the legal system.

    In the times of Web2.0, digital library acquired more opportunities and should grasp the chance to constructing humanistic service system based on Web2.0 technologies. The five modules is an interactive entirety with functions of managing user information, searching and acquiring documentation, consulting questions, training information literacy and communication.

    The problem of informatics independence has always puzzled the informatics researchers. In fact the reasons aroused this phenomenon are various：the element of subject theories deficiency，the inherent complexity of the informatics research object，the information scientists'institutionalization of informatics research，and the interventions by many forces outside in－formatics. If we want to walk out the plight，a new recognition of informatics's independence is needed，the informatics theory and practice should be connected effectively and other subjects' theories should also be adopt extensively. Thus the informatics can have a wonderful future.

    Effective management is to minimize the cost or waste in a limited period of time, and obtain the best result which we expected. The waste of time is the losses of value. To pay attention, analysis and research the readers time cost, so that readers with minimal time to get the most satisfaction. It is one of the most basic and ultimate services goals of library. The article systematically inspected the forms of library open 24 hours a day, focuses on the practice of Huaihai Institute of Technology library open 24 hours a day and makes reflection on it, advocates expanding library extension ser－vices connotations, against the purely formal extension of library services time. Library open 24 hours a day to show peo－ple the wisdom of the librarian, it makes the service performance to achieve the maximization by uses the least time and space and cost.

    Community libraries should adhere to the path of sustainable development. For community libraries in the west areas, of the problems restricting their development, the first one is fund shortage. Government financial allocation is far from enough. All social forces must be introduced in the construction of community libraries. In this paper, it is recom－mended that by means of solicit contributions the practical problem can handled in the way of the construction and de－velopment. With the aim of healthy development of the community libraries, it is not passive waiting but active consulta－tion and communication that are needed for social contributions.

    There are many incorrect expressions in the "bamboo and silk documents" section in the book History of Chi－nese Books and Libraries. The forms of bamboo and silk documents have great influence on the system of Chinese books. And large amounts of unearthed bamboo and silk documents open up many underground libraries for us. Therefore，bam－boo and silk documents section should keep "books" and "libraries" as key words to reveal the state of early books and libraries. But the relevant chapters can not satisfy this kind of academic expectation.
