  • Discrimination of Library Science Research Methods and Relative Conceptions

    Library Science Research Methods are scientific patterns if one want to engage in library science research. Mostly, library science are on behalf of some favorite research methods from social science, such as questionnaire survey and statisical analysis. Both of them are empirical quantitative analysing methods. Scholars also borrow interpretative and critical methods, such as documental analysing method, historical textual research method, case study method, reflection and criticism method. Generally, Library science research methods are correlating with others, such as library science methodology, general academic research methods, library sciencespecialized methods. They have many differences yet. Recently, there are prevalent in“library science specialized research methods” which are definite false conceptions. It is advisable to stop using false conceptions in library science research.

     Children's library originated in Britain and formed in the USA. From then on, lots of children's libraries were established in other countries of the world, which had been developed from the 19th century to the 1940s. Children's library had been introduced into China in the early 20th century. Lots of articles on discussing children's library, which were very important, had been written by Du Dingyou, Dong Mingdao, Zeng Xianwen and so on. Meanwhile, many children's libraries had been established in China. The level of children's libraries in China was different from that of other country because of different level of economic and culture.

On the basis of researches on ontology and domain ontology at home and abroad, it compares the typical ontology construction methods. And, it proposes a comprehensive ontology construction method. Moreover, it uses the method and constructs software defect domain ontology.
  • The Impact Factors of the Cost in Permanent Digital Resources Preservation

    Based on the review of existing cost calculation models of permanent digital resources preservation, the paper pointed out that there is no essential difference among different models. Then, considering that some variations and scenarios, which may have a great impact on the whole cost of digital preservation, will emerge in every stage of the preservation process, some advices were made to calculate the whole cost of this process, including emphasis on the selection of different preservation strategies and organizations, different types of digital objectives and authentic and security requirements，etc.
  • Investigation and Analysis on the Shared Repositories in Japan

    The construction of shared repositories are more economic and effective for medium or small institutes which have difficulties in establishing their own repository. This article investigates and analyzes the shared repositories in Japan on the background, members, source of funding and contents construction. The findings show that the development of these shared repositories benefited from the financial investment and technical supporting of National Institute of Informatics, the experiences of lead institutions from constructing their own repositories and so on. The results also show that some problems or shortages of the shared repositories in Japan.

    The research on domestic and foreign library's strategic planning present situation is a practice foundation for instructing scientific policy -making. Majority Libraries in China lack the enough strategic consciousness. They do not formulate their own strategic plans and announce them in the website. The gap between different library type and area is remarkable. Each kind of library in China lacks the enough ability generally to formulate and propagandize their plans. The strategic plan text has not been able to obtain the conventional revision consummation. There is few of organic engagement between individual library and overall enterprise.

  • Researches on Imbalance Development of the Public Library Cause in Chongqing

    Although great achievement has been got in public library in our country, there are still many problems, such as the location, the resources, regional development, and funds are not well arranged. The author analyzed these problems and their reasons in Chongqing and proposes that improvements can be done in five aspects: the study of the position of public library, the legal construction concerning library, increasing funds, digital library, and service awareness.

    ARL Evaluating E -resources is the result of a systematic survey of ARL member libraries on purchasing/licensing e -resources related to current practice in the field. This report elaborated the two purchasing strategies that purchasing/licensing e -resources through consortia and library direct purchasing/licensing e-resources in many aspects. Finally, the exsited problems and improvements were proposed.

    The author discusses the connotation and extension of copyright exception, analyzes the relation between copyright exception and copyright limitation, as well as points out that copyright limitation is about whether works are protected by copyright laws, such as district limitation, time limitation, while copyright exception is the exemption for use permission of copyrighted works that are under copyright protection. On this basis, the nature, types and systems of copyright exception are also explored, according to the current copyright laws from the main countries.

    The external disturbance of formation of the regional digital divide is the unbalanced regional environment while the internal requirement of formation of the regional digital divide is the motives of the different choices of informatization location. The characters of spatial layouts of informatization can be summed up as follows: the coordinative needs of the construction of information facilities, the spatial aggregation of the distribution of information industry, the gradient effect of the information technology diffusion, the limitation of the sharing of information resources and the inequality of the quality and quantity of information entity. The essential reason to form the regional digital divide is that informatization has a strong tendency of spatial succession, and has the demand of centralization and decentralization in its spatial progress.

    The key technology of Personalization Application includes three aspects: User Modeling, Recommendation System, and Personalization Evaluation. First, User Modeling collects user personal data, and provides user's interests and preference to Recommendation System. Secondly, Recommendation System is the most important part of Personalization, which recommends personalized content for individual. Finally, Evaluation provides the feedback information of user's evaluation for Recommendation System to help it modulating the strategy of User Modeling. Personalization application is a process with continuous modulating its recommend strategy according to user's feedback.

    Libraries are in the critical period of development from the traditional Lib1.0 to Lib2.0 in the web2.0 environment, and network personal digital library is being paid more and more attention to as an important form of Lib2.0 reader service in China. Based on the Alexa website ranking and traffic statistics analysis of three domestic network personal digital libraries, the author discussed the development status and problems of network personal digital library in China, and put forward some suggestions to promote the development of network personal digital library. The results show that: Internet users have a generally low knowledge level of network personal digital library service pattern and concept, and it limits the increasing of users' number and rapid growth. Increasing the number of reverse link by wide publicity, improving the service platform to meet the needs of mainstream users, and encouraging users to participate by incentive mechanism, these are the basic measures of network personal digital library development.

The process of cooperation is to attract attention and bring to the forefront in juvenile reading from different industries of society in different level, and which is the process of promoting young children reading as well. The article is trying to use the cases of the reading action on the young children reading which library held, to explore the form, content, system of cooperation with society in promoting juvenile reading.

    Reader's rights is essential for individual development. However women in old China were excluded from the social knowledge fields, that is, women could not read books in ancient Chinese libraries. Reformer in Modern China strongly advocated building library and women education. Modern library and women education together created great opportunity for women's using libraries. From then on women can own the rights of holding social knowledge information and so they can get in the public fields such as the public libraries that had always been owned by men. Women thus can enjoy, to some extent, readers' rights, which cannot be ignored in the history progress.

    In 1927, the National Government established its capital in Nanking. In consideration of the politics and the social demands, the Nanking National Government decided to set up the State Central Library to resolve the problem. Mr. Li Xiaoyuan thought that the construction of public library should have legislative foundation or be admitted by the law. And as a model of public library, the construction of the State Central Library should begin with legislation. The legislation construction of the State Central Library in Republic of China mainly lays in three aspects, including the construction of organization regulations, the regulations of stuff selection and engagement, and the copyright legislation of the new published books.

The library scientists of this era are equal to the first and second generations of Chinese librarian in the 20th century. This paper focuses on the first generation that studied library science in USA, and makes clear what they had done for the Chinese library cause when they were born and died. Some mistakes in other records are also corrected.

    The features of the early libraries in China was evidenced by unearthed bamboo and silk in the form of literature object which was helpful in correcting many final conclusions in connection with the collective object, knowledge structure, classification of books, library catalog and structure of subjects of ancient library based on the literature be handed down from ancient times. However, there was a great chanciness and uncertainty on unearthed bamboo and silk. So far unearthed literature's research was still in the early stage of returning to original documents state. There are so many problems in explaining and translating manuscripts, splicing silk and arranging bamboo and so on. Therefore, unearthed bamboo and silk themselves cannot constitute sufficient material in the research of early library. "Double Evidence Method" initiate by Wang Guowei is still the fundamental method we need to hold on.
  • On The Value of Chinese Petroglyphs as Historical Materials

    To the value of Chinese petroglyphs as historical materials, academic circles have different views. The supporters call it as “history books on stones”, but the opponents take it as graffiti. Compared with traditional documents, Chinese petroglyphs have itsdistinguishing features. Its carriers are stones; recording methods are digging and drawing and main transmitting information is pictures. As a special pattern of Chinese traditional historical documents, Chinese petroglyphs keep ancient information directly. How to regard this kind of historical materials is a question that needs thinking over.
