  • Library Science and the Hierarchical Structure of Its Research Objects

    The study of library science and its objects should be the fusion of researchers' horizons based on the relationship of library science and its objects and researchers as well. The research objects can be divided into ontology, epistemology and methodology according to the awareness level of the researchers. Accordingly, the library science presents different forms or levels, like phenomenology, meta -science, and methodology. Basically, the library science object is so called "library nature", its phenomenological form is the systematization and theorization of the knowledge on the essence of library phenomenon, its internal relations, social function, and development law. This systematic and theoretical study explains the phenomenon of the origin and development of the library.

    The paper studies the several foundational issues of present information science from the perspectives of discipline mission, research object, the nature of discipline, research content and subject system. Then, puts forward several views such as： discipline mission of information science is provides new theories, new methods, and new ideas for all sectors of information management practices； independence and irreplaceable of information science depends on if this discipline could investigates the essential of research objects and forms regular and systematic understanding； Information science have a clear features of management. This paper tries to build the modern information science discipline system from the four aspects such as theory, applications, technology and management.

    This article carries out the comparison and analysis of the 4 drafts of the content frame during the exploiting of the “Resource Description and Access”, which includes the attempts and exploration, and the possible shortcomings of each phase. By this development of the content frame of RDA, we could find out how important the logical analysis is, and how it tried to describe the complicated information resource types and new features of information. RDA emphasizes the contents and the relations of the entities, digs deeply for the information and stresses on the user-centered resource description process.

    T here are a variety of factors that influence knowledge transfer performance of library consulting team. Combining the meaning of knowledge transfer performance and library consulting team, using the methodology of "physical-common sense-people management （WS）" system, this paper analyzes the influence factors of knowledge transfer to performance and proposes operational mechanism of library consulting team based on knowledge transfer performance in order to control the direction, speed, reliability and validity of knowledge transfer performance and enhance the effect of knowledge transfer.

    T his paper analyzes from the angle of statistics the reason of the controversy raised about "Per capita consumption of books". It points out that misunderstanding may be caused by either limit in statistical method chosen， index design and data collection or misinterpretation of statistical data. The paper further elaborates that rationality and professional spirit are essential for the acquisition of the truth， since statistical data is always determined by the statistical method chosen and the way of data collection. In reference to the American study of "per capita consumption of information"，method of improvement is proposed as well.

    The Library of Congress uses the resources and prestige to national reading promotion campaign. The Center for the Book was established in 1977 to promote books, reading, literacy and libraries, as well as the scholarly study of books. It has sponsored and supported a variety of projects and themes throughout more than 30 years. On behalf of books and reading, the Center for the Book serves as an advocate, a catalyst, and a source of ideas --both nationally and internationally. Through analysis these projects and themes, the paper discuss the practical experience to provide examples for promote reading in China.

  • Improving the Precision of Personalized Recommendation by Customized Web Log

    This paper analyses the processes and methods of web log data modeling through the research of personalized recommendation and data modeling theory, and points out that the normal web log can't meet the needs of personalized user-analysis, prediction and the recommended precision. It puts forward the process and method of customizing Web blog data modeling and sets up a prototype of customizing web log data model. We use data mining technique to analyze association rules, classifying and clustering. The experiment shows that the data quality of customized web log data can provide good quality to find out the association rules， the content classification and the user clustering, therefore, it can improve the precision of Personalized Recommendation. Moreover, it has its merits in simplifying data preprocessing and increasing multiple utilities.

    There are many definitions on the M-library. We define the M-library as a kind of environment in this article. The M-library Environment is different from the ubiquitous environment. It is an expression of ubiquitous environment. In the M -library Environment, there are many opportunities because it conforms to the development trend of digital library, meets the users' mobile-learning needs and innovates the modes of library management and services. But the challenges is more than opportunities, the library must takes measures to overcome the problems of technology, fund, resources and information equity etc.

    This article introduces the meaning and the springing-up of the study on library reading, and its features as well. The articles relating to the research of library reading have increased in recent years. The cultural construction brings opportunities for the development of the library reading theory. The subjects concentrate on the reading guidance, reading education, reading promotion, leisure reading and reading development. The reading research has a close relationship with Philology, psychology and Medical Science, which brings about some interdisciplinary researches. Lack of profundity is the problem existing in the reading researches. And the empirical studies have limited guiding effect because there are few of good works.

    The article holds that the current phenomenon of domestic library science academic writing has the following characteristics： 1.The quantity of the paper increases fast， but few of them are of high-quality； 2. Most people have broad range of the study， but few of them have a stable research direction； 3.More attention is paid to academic， rigorous， innovation of the paper， but the vitality is ignored which is reflected in rare use of rhetoric；4. The majority of the papers expresses personal point of view， but few of them carry on discussion or academic criticism； 5. Some editors of library and information journals wrote "how to write library and information papers"， but library scientists seldom talk about professional academic writing. The main reasons for this situation are related to the librarians' academic and professional structure. Individual researchers should continue to improve their qualifications， their knowledge structure and the level of research； the library community should further strengthen the training efforts.
