The Structure and Logic of Library and Information Science under the Perspective of the Hierarchical Social Cognition Theory

Abstract

Present study conducted a co-words analysis procedure based on the 3593 academic articles in LISTA from a perspective of the Hierarchical Social Cognition Theory to explore the structure of records resources, users and the cognition of the society. The findings of this research include that among the Library and Information Science related research, there existed: 1) 4 levels of records resources such as public records, professional-public records, general-professional records and professional records. 2) 4 levels of users such as users without the identified information issues, users with specific information needs, users under anomalous state of information and users with normal information problem. 3) 4 levels of interaction between records resource and users to satisfy the entertainment and experience related general cognition need, specific information needs, general knowledge need and knowledge innovation need. The study conformed the framework of the Hierarchical Social Cognition Theory.
