Abstract

The article focuses on the academic work of F.W. Lancaster, a great library and information science scholar, and his thinking on information society in his later years. Through his speech Survival is not Mandatory, the author puts forward that "human-oriented librarian view" is the core of Lancaster's thought, and introduces how he projected this concern into the border information society in his legacy Web of Evil. Lancaster's final thoughts provide important directional guidance for building the mission of LIS in the new era.
