美国图书馆协会（ALA）和美国国家信息标准协会（NISO）近年来都制定了不少关于公共图书馆的隐私管理规范政策，美国各州按照ALA和NISO的政策也都制定了各州的公共图书馆隐私管理规范。这些管理规范主要用于解决公共图书馆隐私保护范围、公开个人信息的限制情形、侵犯隐私应当受到的惩罚措施等问题。我国公共图书馆可参考美国经验，结合我国公共图书馆隐私保护现状，进一步完善公共图书馆隐私保护的法律体系、明确读者隐私数据的保护范围、改善隐私数据的管理机制、明确隐私泄露的处理及救济措施、提高公共图书馆馆员的专业素质，构建公共图书馆隐私管理的内控机制。
